Welcome to the IndigoArts Blog.

My name is Holly McWilliams and I'm a Canadian artist living in Calgary, Alberta.

From a young age, I've had a passion for creating and expressing myself through art and dance. I attended The Alberta College of Art & Design, majoring in sculpture and painting. I have been an art teacher with Swinton's Art Instruction since 2000 and I also teach and perform Belly Dancing - one of the oldest social dances in world history.

In 2005 I developed Indigo Arts with a goal to inspire people and to help them realize their own passion and expression of their creative self. Art is a very personal experience, unique to every individual. Understanding technique is a doorway to another level of visual communication - this is where your personal expression will flourish.

My passion for oil paint keeps growing. A wonderful material - rich in history and function, perfect for my figurative work, still life and landscapes. I often paint my subjects illuminated with dramatic lighting and brilliant colour. My figures loose and find edges to create a sense of movement while my sunsets are a frozen moment of time. I paint with a contrast of extravagant loose marks set off by smooth polished areas to create atmosphere and most importantly mood, striving not to imitate the subject but to create a reflection of the image that has the awareness of a moment - feeling of movement.
